Rice Crispy Treats are a beloved dessert widely popular in the United States, fondly remembered by many from their childhood. These treats are quick, simple, and require no baking, making them a perfect go-to recipe for any occasion. The recipe consists of three main ingredients: crispy rice cereal, marshmallows, and butter.

These treats date back to the 1930s when Mildred Day and Malitta Jensen, employees of the Kellogg Company, created them as a fundraiser idea for a Camp Fire Girls organization. Instructions

  1. Prepare ingredients: Make sure all ingredients are measured and ready to use. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Melt butter: In a large pot, melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter over low heat. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
  3. Add marshmallows: Once the butter is fully melted, add the 10 oz of marshmallows to the pot. Stir constantly until the marshmallows have completely melted and are well combined with the butter.
  4. Mix in vanilla and salt (optional): For extra flavor, you can now add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to the melted marshmallow mixture, and stir until fully incorporated.
  5. Add crispy rice cereal: Remove the pot from heat and immediately add 6 cups of crispy rice cereal to the pot. Gently fold the cereal into the melted marshmallow mixture until all of the cereal is evenly coated.
  6. Transfer mixture to baking dish: Carefully pour the mixture into the greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Use a buttered spatula or waxed paper to evenly press the mixture into the dish without compacting it too tightly.
  7. Cool and set: Allow the mixture to cool and set at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares.
  8. Cut and serve: Once set, cut the treats into 16 squares using a sharp knife. Serve and enjoy!

Enjoy your Rice Crispy Treats! These timeless treats are perfect for dessert, snack time, or even as a quick treat to bring to parties.
