Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the water and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a separate bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, black pepper, and paprika. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a thin sheet (about 1/8 inch thick). Cut into 2-inch squares.
  4. Fill and Shape the Dumplings: Place a small spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each square. Fold the corners of the dough up to form a small bundle and press the edges to seal.
  5. Cook the Dumplings: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the dumplings in batches, ensuring they do not stick together. Cook for about 8-10 minutes or until tender and the meat is cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain.
  6. Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, mix the yogurt and garlic until smooth. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and add the dried mint and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir until fragrant.
  7. Assemble and Serve: Place the cooked dumplings on a serving plate. Spoon the yogurt-garlic sauce over the dumplings. Drizzle with the mint butter sauce. Serve immediately.

Enjoy your homemade Turkish dumplings, a delightful and traditional dish bursting with flavor. Afiyet olsun!
